How Adonia found her passion in misery

Mbali ‘Adonia The Poet’ Nhlabatsi

Mbali ‘Adonia The Poet’ Nhlabatsi started poetry at a very young age, she loved reading poems from magazines and Newspapers but started writing her own when she was doing matric in 2014 and she blew everyone’s minds away.

There was a memorial service at her former school, Phulong Secondary School, for a female student who had passed on. So, everyone was asked to participate in any way they could so Adonia’s friend asked that she write one or two stanzas that they were to later combine and recite together. “I wrote a full piece then the next day I recited to my friend and she was the one who really pushed me to do it alone because according to her it was really great” she says when we ask her what really pushed her to start writing.

Adonia joined Agape Productions in 2016 and they would usually host shows in Daveyton where she would mostly perform her poems, she has also performed for a Fashion show that was hosted by Vavo Vogue and in poetry sessions that are hosted around Kwa-Thema. She says that she knows most of her poems by heart so she’s always ready to perform or just recite them because after writing, she practices on her spare time. The multi-talented Adonia is also good at writing creative stories and she’s also a good presenter but has not got the platform to showcase her other talents aside from poetry.

Adonia is inspired by Sbo The Poet, she says that he speaks the same language as hers and that his style and structure is similar to hers. She would like to have her own book of poems and also have a slot on Radio where she will recite her poems for the society, she wishes to spread poetry to the nation as it heals and teaches people.
