On Monday at about 3:30 pm, an 18-year-old woman was found dead at her home in Kwa-Thema after an alleged house breaking.
It was supposed to be a normal day for the victim when she allegedly noticed an unknown African male coming out from one of the back rooms carrying bags. She confronted the suspect who then allegedly hit her with an unknown object, after which the victim fell on the ground and died instantly.
The mother of the victim arrived from work as this commotion was happening and noticed the suspect exit her home. She gave chase using her vehicle, bumped the suspect and stopped. The suspect stood up and fled the scene on foot leaving behind the items stolen from the victim’s home.
The mother of the victim drove back her home and upon inspecting the house, found her daughter and noticed that she was dead.
The Kwa-Thema South African Police Services (SAPS) were called to the scene and all relevant departments were summoned. The paramedics certified the 18-year-old victim dead on their arrival.
A case of murder has been opened at the Kwa-Thema SAPS.
Colonel Thobejane is saddened by this incident, as there was an ongoing child protection week which ended on Monday. “Children must be protected by all means from these heartless perpetrators, it’s sad to see a matriculant dreams cut short by criminals,” emphasised Colonel Mareketle Thobejane, Kwa-Thema SAPS Station Commander.
