Singer, Bongekile “Babes Wodumo” Simelane did not attend the media briefing as anticipated by the South African public. In her place, her parents Welcome Simelane (father) and Thokozile Simelane (mother) addressed the media saying that Bongekile is currently not feeling well enough to speak to the public.
Welcome Simelane thanked the South African public, the media, political parties and artists for their support throughout this ordeal. “Your messages went a long way in putting a smile on our daughters face” he stated. He confirmed that the matter had been reported to the police at Westville police station in Durban, “since the matter has been handed over to the police, it becomes critical to give them the opportunity to do proper investigations,” said Welcome.
Bongekile’s father stated that this address is mainly to assure the public that their support is appreciated. He further went on to address parents going through similar experiences to continue to support their children, without passing judgement on their character. “Babes will continue to do what she was called to do and honour appointments with due respect,” Welcome said. Babes Wodumo is also said to be working on strengthening her charity foundation supporting disadvantaged South Africans.
According to Welcome Simelane, he was extremely humbled to have received free medical and legal services for his daughter, provided by Dr. Mpho Bikitsha and Kholeka Gcaleka respectively. Welcome than thanked the media and no questions were taken as the matter is currently under investigation.
