The Kwa-Thema South African Police Services’ (SAPS) crime prevention unit together with the Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department (EMPD) held a joint intelligence driven drug-bust operation on Tuesday afternoon in Kwa-Thema.
Community members reported and complained numerous times to the SAPS about drugs being sold in their areas. In response to this, the SAPS and EMPD gathered information and intelligence with the aim of busting the drug dealers.
The operation was successful, as a 41-year-old woman was arrested in her Vergenoeg home after a search was done by the police in her home and 216 packets of dagga were found. The police went on to arrest a 30-year-old man in the Masimini area who was found in possession of drugs: 106 mandrax tablets, 14 small and 14 medium-sized Ziploc bags, and R942.50 in cash.
This is a huge stride in crime prevention in Kwa-Thema. All evidence was confiscated, sealed in exhibit bags and booked in at the Kwa-Thema police station.
The suspects will be appearing at the Springs Magistrate Court.
The Kwa-Thema SAPS Station Commander Colonel Mareketle Thobejane commended the members of the SAPS and EMPD for their hard work in securing the arrests and eliminating drugs in the areas.
