The Ekurhuleni Sports Council, which is the sports regulator in the city, is calling on all sports organizations and persons in Tsakane to attend a special general meeting where the township’s sports regulator will be formed.
This will happen next Wednesday, 12 December, at the Faranani Multipurpose Centre in Tsakane, between 17:00 and 19:30. It comes a few weeks after the establishment of the Kwa-Thema Sports Council – or Confederation, as they are otherwise known –that is chaired by retired-footballer-turned-administrator and owner of the Ayoba-Yo Youth Academy, Innocent Mayoyo.
In his interview with KwaTsaDuza Times, Mayoyo explained that sports confederations are necessary for the structuring of local sports, facilitating communication between local clubs and government, and helping clubs and their respective federations acquire sponsorships, among other things. He also lamented the lack of these confederations and the federations which are supposed to be their affiliates, saying it stymies the progress of local sports.
The confederation to which all the local confederations are supposed to affiliate, the Ekurhuleni Sports Council, has thus taken a step to address that, and is calling on all the affected and/or interested parties to choose for themselves who they wish to see serving in the executive committee of Tsakane’s very own council.
