100 Ekurhuleni Shining Stars 2018 programme is open for nominations

The Executive Mayor of Ekurhuleni, Councillor Mzwandile Masina in partnership with Inside Education which is a digital educational publication are hosting the 100 Ekurhuleni Shining Stars programme which is currently open for nominations of young game-changers and leaders who are bringing change in the City.

The programme was inspired by the leadership of former and late President of South Africa, Dr Nelson Mandela and Mma Sisulu since they would have turned 100 this year. This programme is established to encourage young people from the City of Ekurhuleni to lead and transform their communities.  Nominations are only open for these ten fundamental categories: Arts, culture, media and entertainment; Education; Business & entrepreneurship; Health; Environment; Politics & governance; Philanthropy; Civil society & youth activism; Science & technology and Justice & law.

On the City of Ekurhuleni’s press room it is stated that the 100 Ekurhuleni Shining Stars 2018 should be innovative individuals who inspire viable ways to shape the City’s future outlook and the people who live in the region. The nominations are open for youths who have made significant change in their chosen field or in the lives of people in

Ekurhuleni; youths who focus on the needs of developing Ekurhuleni and can show that their work and vision has had impact on others or environment; youths who have created structures suited to future-fit commerce and industry; youths who have contributed to a sustainable future; residents, workers of Ekurhuleni and youth originally born in Ekurhuleni but currently residing elsewhere, are 35 years and under; young people who in the words of Mandela ‘are capable, when aroused, of bringing down the towers of oppression and raising the banners of freedom’.

The winners of the 100 Ekurhuleni Shining Stars 2018 will be announced on December 12, 2018 at the breakfast awards which will be held at the Emperors Palace Casino. Winners will be awarded grand prizes and a scroll naming them “100 Ekurhuleni Shining Stars 2018” by the Mayor and the City Manager, Dr Imogen Mshazi.
